OH MY!!! What can I say. Flora Flora was beautiful! Maybe only the weekend we went. My sister and brother-in-law were moving to Minnesota and so I wanted to take them to the real beach down "south" for their first time. I wanted it to be special and for them to remember good memories in good places and so I decided to take them to Destin, Florida since it is close by and I heard that it is pretty nice. It was a last minute plan so we wouldn't spend much time there. My brother-in-law decided not to go because they have Zeus (their german shepherd) so he stayed home and watched him. I really wanted him to go to but he just couldn't. Even when sleeping in a pet friendly hotel, it still wouldn't be convenient either. Destin didn't have any pet boarding close by nor would it be worth it for only a rushy weekend.
The drive was about five hours only, not bad at all. We got there by seven so it wasn't time to check in yet. We stopped by the beach first thing when we arrived. I just love morning exercises at the beach. It's calm and not busy. All you hear are birds and the waves. You feel the cool breeze. It's an amazing feeling. Upon stepping foot in the sand, Alan had jumped off the steps and knocked his feet over this broken wood hidden in the sand and ripped three-fourths of his nail off one of his toe. Sucks for him. We then went to Walmart to grab some first-aid and a few swimming accessories.
The entire time there, we spent it playing in the beach. My sister and I played mostly by the sore where the waves washes up. As big as we are, the waves were strong enough to push and pull it. Alan had fun but not as fun as he wanted due to his injured toe and sinuses. Sebastian had a great time. Of course, he's a baby, as long as he just gets to ride to places, not have to spend money, and have fun, then he will always have a great time.
Prior to leaving Destin, we stopped by Alvin's to purchases some souvenir. I really like Alvin's and other beach stores. There is just something about the beach that I love so much. I may have been a mermaid my past life. LOL. Destin over all is a family-beach. I wouldn't recommend it to party people. If you just want to relax at the beach, Destin would be the place for you. There are no attractions besides a mini zoo on the beach which is only a quarter of a mile of nothing but turtle nests.
I heard reviews of Destin being clear and not clear. We were lucky enough to go on a weekend that it was crystal clear. I always tell people to check the forecast. I recommend people to go to the beach when it's been a week to two weeks of sun. Do not go after it rains. There will be plenty of algae.
I am not sponsored by anyone or any company. All travelings were through my own personal expenses.
